The Miracle of Exodus
On the night God told Abraham that his descendants would live as slaves in Egypt, He also gave him the covenant promise of the land — sealed through circumcision as a sign between God and His people. Generations later, that promise began to unfold through the calling and preparation of Joseph, Abraham’s great-grandson. God used Joseph’s life to bring Israel into Egypt, where they grew into a nation — and eventually became enslaved, just as God had said.
Through Moses, God performed miracle after miracle to free His people. Yet when Israel reached the border of the Promised Land, faith faltered and fear prevailed. For 37 years they camped at Kadesh Barnea, within sight of the land God had sworn to give them. God brought them to the edge of promise, but because of unbelief, they turned back.
Those everyone twenty years old and olde who had witnessed the miracles of the Exodus — died in the wilderness. Their story reminds us that miracles may reveal God’s power, but they cannot sustain faith.
Faith that endures must rest on God’s Word and character, not on His acts of intervention.
Miracles can awaken faith, but only obedience and trust can sustain it.
