Forgiveness and Relinquishment
This morning, we are going to understand the power of relinquishment and forgiveness in the story of Joseph.
Relinquishment is the act of giving up, abandoning, or surrendering something, such as control, a claim, a right, or a possession.
Forgiveness is a conscious, deliberate decision to release feelings of resentment or vengeance toward a person or group who has harmed you, regardless of whether they deserve your forgiveness.
Because of Joseph’s brothers’ jealousy he was sold as a slave, taken to Egypt, there after ten years of faithful service for his master, he was falsely accused of rape and sent to prison.
Joseph had a life of hurt and injustices and was powerless to do anything about them.
1. Joseph’s forgiveness of his brothers restored his family.
2. True forgiveness happens after relinquishing the hurts and pain caused by actions of others.
